Dr. Manuel Orozco is also Senior Researcher, Institute for the Study of International Migration at Georgetown University and the Washington expert on Central American/Caribbean migration and remittances. He has worked on issues related to migration, international relations, and their implications for the United States. In addition, he has worked as a consultant for various organizations in Central America, the United States, and South Africa, developing programs on democracy and governance issues. He was Program Director for Central America at the Inter American Dialogue and teaches at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. State Department. He has taught international relations in Costa Rica and served on various boards in Nicaragua. Dr. Orozco holds a Ph.D. in political science, and M.A. degrees in public administration and Latin American studies from the University of Texas at Austin. He has published extensively on family remittances to Latin America and Caribbean, democracy in Central America, and is author of the forthcoming book International Norms and Mobilization for Democracy (London: Ashgate Publishers, Spring 2002).
